This Hairy Woodpecker found our firewood pile full of appetizing treats.
She pounded her beak against the wood . . .
. . . as she searched for a snack hidden under the bark.
My speckled visitor squeaked as it clamored over our fuel . . .
Tilting its head, listening for the tiny rustle that signals food.
I watched with an intensity that was matched and multiplied by the woodpecker's search - until it was time for both of us to move on.

Isn't it wonderful to see the birds doing what they do naturally? Great photographs.
