Yesterday I shared a photo of my sad little banana tree beyond my garden in the New Woods Field that has been gnawed on by some animal, possibly deer or a tall groundhog.
Because several of you felt bad for that pathetic tree I wanted to share a view of the grove within my garden. This clump is getting close to ten years old. Each successive spring shows larger trees and more stalks though autumn frost means that a quick slice from a sharp shovel brings the giant leaves with their sopping stalks crashing to the ground where the buried root clumps will be mulched with leaves.

The trees below are about two stories tall.
While our season here in Zone 6b isn't long enough to produce actual bananas, the trees bring me tropical joy. They are usually a fun surprise to my garden visitors.

I just commented in your post before this on that 'pathetic banana'. And now you are saying those plants are 2 stories tall, those are even taller than our bananas here in the tropics! Amazing! I am sad you cannot make them fruit because of the changing season. But you can use the leaves in many ways!

the trees are beautiful, i had no idea they would grow like that there, but then i remembered daddy had them in Georgia and they died back in the winter and came back in the spring. we are used to them growing year round. we have several and i love them.

Definitely need more then "Yao Ming" to pluck the bananas out of the tree !
IOts amazing that they survive the cold. I was in the Canary Islands and they were a big crop, and fun to enjoy so fresh.

I like the way the plant looks despite the fact there are no bananas. Very cool!
