We are on the road to winter.
That road is paved with leaves;
Piles and piles of leaves.
There are trees waiting to deposit more;
lots and lots of trees.
Trees holding onto leaves of red, yellow, brown, amber and gold.
That road is paved with leaves;
Piles and piles of leaves.
There are trees waiting to deposit more;
lots and lots of trees.
Trees holding onto leaves of red, yellow, brown, amber and gold.
Each tree waiting its turn to drop its bounty into the wind.
Once they are down, there will be no going back up.
So for now we shall enjoy the crunch, the crackle . . .
. . . the sound of the road.

I can hear the crunch and crackle as i wander down this lovely road. i can say i am glad i don't have to rake all these leaves. although i do miss raking leaves and burning them back when I was a child. i love the smell of burning leaves. NOT in a fire, but a controled in a yard pit
Your pictures remind me of of how I envisioned Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken."
I kicked at a few the other day and my grandson thought that would be part of our walk, kicking his way down the path.Like the closeup shot of the leaves.
I love the pictures I get from your comments. Prairie, I could walk well with your grandson. Sandra, when I first moved here In the fall people nearby community would burn their leaves. I, too liked the smell but there some days that it was hard to breath or see. It is now illegal to burn leaves.

lovely walk! i'll enjoy all your autumnness!
I love to hear the crunch of the leaves. Our dogs delight in running full speed through the fallen leaves. As for brushing off the leaves caught in their long hair? Not so much.
I love it! You captured it so well with your words.
nellie girl how true is this !

Beautiful fall photos! We don't get much of a winter where I live in Southern California. But that's OK I'll watch all the snow storms on TV. That is if I survive our next earthquake!
Have a Wonderful Week :-)

I love your third photo with all the different color leaves together. But looking at them also makes me think of the raking yet to come, ours will be falling soon.
And what do I see??? Future compost!
