Today I am sitting on my porch, drinking a pot of green tea with the reservoir protected under its tea cozy - one sewed especially for me by my sister, Mary. I'm writing for a different blog, REVIEWS BY NELLIE. I just wanted you to see part of how I am being entertained as I write.
A female hummingbird is zooming back and forth from this end of my garden to the other end, out of sight. She seems to be very involved in keeping anyone out of her territory. I have watched her chase a hummingbird moth, a wasp and a sparrow. The sparrow sitting atop a fence post when it was attacked. The hummer then returned to check out the spot. That is when I finally was able to catch it. Mostly it was too fast.

cute little pixie! :)
Great shot!
Those little hummingbirds can be so aggressive, they never fail to amaze me. This photo is wonderful!
Thank you for sharing your lovely morning with us, pugilistic yet entertaining hummingbird and all! :-) I have to laugh at their territorial behavior and aggression that's way out of proportion to their size. I brought our feeder in to clean and make fresh nectar for it the other day, and watched a Rufous hummingbird sit and guard the empty shepherd's hook upon which it usually hangs for nearly an hour! Another hummingbird from years past would sit on top of the feeder we kept out back, defending it from all comers, while simultaneously keeping an eye on the feeder out front through our rear and front windows. If he spied anyone feeding at it, he'd fly over the house roof to chase them off! Silly boy hardly ever ate, so concerned was he with others getting a sip from "his" nectar, it was like an Aesop morality tale about greed!
way cool shot, would love to see her zooming.
What a charmer! Very much in action and well-captured. (Sorry, I don't regularly post in Today's Flowers so you won't really know me. My blog is Flower Memes). Thank you.
Oh, that's lovely, caught it on the spot !
They really are fast, aren't they? Good capture, though!
Nice shot! It surprised me to see a hummingbird spar with the wasps this year! They seem to small to bother with.
