Fear the Fungus?

Primordial shapes appear overnight.
Brought on by more than a bit of rain
They burst through the turf,
Thrusting leaf and twig aside -
Bullies of the forest floor
Arriving in the dark,
Clothed like alien visitors
Huddled together.
Clannish they stay together
seldom venturing out alone.

Colors,
 Shapes,
Seen only in nature,
Science fiction -
or a child's
Thickly crayoned
Work of art.

Unexpected,
They go where they please
Oblivious to our boundaries
Borders and walls
Look quickly if you want to see
Don't delay your view
For darkness comes soon
And when it fades
It carries them with it.

Mary, I just can't stop taking photographs of the fungi
Anne, Thanks, I had never seen one like that rose one. It sort of looked like some molded bread we once had.

Beautiful! It is amazing how quickly they pop up.

With all the much appreciated rain we have been having, they are starting to pup up around here as well, though not as varied or as pretty as yours.

There is a sulpher mushroom that grows at the bases of oak trees that grows so fast it encases grass, twigs and leaves. All very lovely

Wonderful pictures and words Nellie, Thanks for sharing. I like the mushrooms also, for they cause me to get down on ground level, a place that I seldom visit, but once there am amazed at what I see and learn.
