The "meadow" is actually a gas line right-of-way that wasn't mowed last summer and hasn't yet been mown this summer. meadow plants abound in the bright verdant glow.

could that be . . . ?
Butterflies!
They are everywhere.
The Zebra swallowtails were quick to fly.
Two, though were more interested in each other than in my camera lens.
I suppose that this photo, like those in the post TURTLE LOVE, are the sort that caused a Chinese internet search engine label this blog as abusive.
Oh well, the butterflies seemed to enjoy themselves - as did I. I know that soon the Gas company will have to mow this wonderful strip of abundant blooms. In the mean time, the butterflies will multiply with abandon. I will leave them in peace . . . at least until next week.

These photos remind me a LOT of the meadow on the property where I was interning in Ohio, back when I started my blog. Right down to having the same butterfly species. Honestly, some people might think I'm nuts but after nine months of living on the coast I cannot WAIT to get back to the Midwest, albeit northern Wisconsin, which will be different from Ohio.
Love the greens, but the second image is my favorite ...
Amazing how the area came up in so many beautiful flowers, around here it would have sprouted burdock and thistles. I love the butterflies flitting about doing what comes naturally. Wonderful pictures!

What a wonderful walk! I guess cutting it back each year will keep it as meadow rather than turning into more woods.

I am going for more native/wild plants in our front yard, but am also choosing non-native plants that attract butterflies. Everything is pretty small this year, but I'm looking for them to get much larger next year.
