October Morning

I actually made it out into the woods early yesterday morning.  It was my first good walk since returning from vacation.  The trees still had most of their leaves, but it will just take one good rain or wind storm to strip them bare. The morning light bounced off golds, reds and amber leaves, momentarily   highlighting  birds that flew and called from tree tops in near panic as they competed for food.
A brushy meadow glowed with yellow ragweed where bumble bees clung as if frozen, eating a last meal before being claimed by winter.
Sensitive ferns grow for a few more days but will soon be taken by frost.
And blue-headed turkeys search for hens to impress.

It is nice to be back in the woods.
