Fleeting

The larger the bird, the more skittish it is.  The small birds fly all around us while the larger birds fly away at any unexpected movement.  I think that it is because the larger birds take more time and energy to start up so they don't like to wait until the last minute to escape.  Smaller birds can leave in an instant, so they can afford to wait until the threat is more eminent.  These mourning doves felt safe enough to eat my offering of sunflower seeds

Until I appeared at the door. Together they flew across the gully to a distant tree, visible only through all the zoom power my camera could muster.
