Spring in My Woodland Garden

Azalea blooms in hot colors . . . 

attracting more than just human visitors.

Daffodils come in more than mere yellow.

A new sprout of the  non-native Japanese painted fern slowly unfurls to display its multi-hued fronds.

A patch of immature Trout lily (erythronium americanum) unexpectedly surfaces in my fern garden. Not long ago, the fern garden was part of a woodland forest.  The Trout lilies must be a remnant of that time.  I can't wait until they are mature enough to bloom.

I'm seeing blue with a mix of periwinkle (Vinca minor) and Grape hyacinths (Muscari).  They grow together on a curved berm built out of sod that has come from flower beds built over twenty years.

What would spring be without violets - thousands of violets?
